Double bass-performer, composer, and improviser CARLOS MALDONADO CISNEROS
Founding member of several ensembles in Mexico and Canada such as Los Dorados, Malcisne, Chocolate Smoke Gang and LeJager. He has obtained recognition and awards from the following during the course of his career: the National System of Art Creators SNCA 2023-2026; Program scholarship for artists, from the Council of Arts and Letters of Québec, Canada, 2021; Arts Abroad, Council of Arts of Canada 2019; Young Creators, National Fund for Culture and the Arts FONCA 2013; Best Experimental Album, Indie-O Music Awards 2009; Young Creators, State Fund for Culture, and the Arts FECAC 2002.

Carlos has performed with L’Orchestre Symphonique de l’Isle 2018-2021. La Symphonie de la Virée (featuring Rafael Payare) 2023, Montreal QC. He has collaborated with Cuong-Vu, Christine Jensen, Greg Cohen, Ben Wendel, Jean-Michel Pilc, Michel Lambert and Héctor del Curto, and performed in: Novi Sad Jazz Festival, Serbia; Montreal International Jazz Festival; Mood Indigo Music Festival, Mumbai, India; Glatt & Verkehrt Music Festival, Krems, Austria; Music Marathon & Film Festival CMJ, NY City; Ibero-American Festival of Musical Culture-Vive Latino, Mexico City.
It is bass that led Carlos to develop his musical skills and to study orchestra double bass at the School of Music in Mexico City. He later graduated with a master’s degree from the jazz composition and performance program at the Schulich School of Music, McGill University.

Culture, Arts & Literature: Founding member of the North Hatley Jazz Festival, QC 2025 where he currently serves as an important part of the music artists committee. Jury and Tutor of the FONCA Mexico Young Creators Program 2025-2026. Collaborated as Cultural Affairs Assistant at Consulate of Mexico in Montreal QC 2021. Communications Assistant at Enrolment Services and Service Point, McGill University 2020-2021.
Some of his artistic work and trajectory appears in the books: Atlas of Jazz in México, Taller de Creación Literaria by Antonio Malacara. México City Musicians by Zazil Collins & Todd Clouser 2016, and the book-CD: Humano, Demasiado Humano / Three Decades of AIDS in Mexico 2013. Carlos served for three years as creator and artistic music director of the Music Festival Desiertos Sonoros-La Música en la Calle, Torreón, Mexique 2011-2013.
